THE STORY OF QUILTS AND CLAY

A Journey Through Quilts, Clay, and Community

Sewing

My love for sewing began in the 1970s in middle school home economics class. Those first simple stitches sparked a passion that has only grown with time. I fell in love with quilting, advancing from hand-stitching to mastering machine techniques and eventually embracing the artistry of long arm quilting. Along this journey, sewing became a way to create meaningful pieces, like clothes for my daughter when she was young, and to share gifts with loved ones in gratitude.

Pottery

My pottery story started in high school, where I first discovered the magic of clay on the wheel. Life pulled me away from it for a while, but 30 years later, a dear childhood friend suggested we start pottery classes together at a local studio in Western Pennsylvania. Reconnecting with clay was transformative, and I quickly set up my home studio to keep creating. Today, I'm deeply inspired by the beauty of slab pottery, where beginners and advanced artists alike can craft expressive, stunning pieces. Plates and platters that stack from large to small are some of my favorites to make and teach.

Quilts and Clay

Living in the Wood River Valley, Idaho, I'm fulfilling a dream I nurtured for years. My homestead—once a vision shared with my daughter through pages of country and Idaho magazines—has become a reality. It’s here, on this little farm, that I’ve created my sewing and pottery studios, a sanctuary for my family, our animals, and the wider community. Quilts and Clay is about more than personal creations for sale; it's a space where people come to learn, connect, and create. Teaching slab pottery classes and fostering a supportive, collaborative atmosphere feels like a gift we all benefit from, one that nurtures connection through shared creativity.

Lavender Garden

My love for growing things has led me to my newest passion: lavender.

Munstead and Phenomenal varieties are now thriving on our homestead, adding beauty, fragrance, and the endless delight of a plant that keeps on giving.

This connection to the earth is a natural extension of my creative life, grounding and inspiring everything I make.
